Previously, you could only transfer Analytcis per whole account. If you had multiple properties in 1 account, then transferring was impossible. Many people ran into this problem, so for some time now there has been the option to transfer individual properties. Google has listened to the wishes of users. With complex properties (many settings) you still have to be careful.

Easily move your Google Analytics property to a new account

This new feature allows you to get full ownership of any property, even if someone else created the account/property. Useful if you are taking over an online business. Previously, these issues arose:

  • Some features in Google Analytics require account-level permissions even if you make changes to a specific property. If that account has properties for other websites that are not being sold, they cannot give you account-level permissions, because you will have access to all those properties.
  • Since properties could not be transferred, the web agency has access to your entire Analytics even if you have severed the relationship with them.

Related properties

Besides being bundled, creating related properties on the same account has other benefits besides organization. For example, it is easier to create/update filters when properties are in the same account. Sometimes you have properties that you no longer use but don't want to delete because of their historical data value. Now you can create an account for those old properties and clean up your active account.

Things to consider before moving your ownership

The process is fairly easy; the Google Analytics team has done an excellent job of making the transfer as seamless as possible. The property will not be duplicated and will be moved, and most of the settings will be passed to the new account. However, there are a few things to consider.

Things that stay the same:

  • The tracking code number remains the same, so you do not need to make any changes on the website.

Things being moved:

  • Views of the property
  • Historical data
  • Settings and configurations: remarketing target groups and dynamic attributes, custom definitions, data imports and custom tables
  • Assets in views: dashboards, custom reports, annotations, segments and goals

Things being copied:

  • Filters, thereby 2 things to keep in mind:

    • If there is a filter with the same name, the configuration of the destination account remains.

    • Filters are copied and not moved, so don't worry about losing your filters in the original account.

  • Linked accounts and integrations: AdWords, AdSense, Ad Exchange, etc. The only exception is DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP). If your account is linked to DFP, you must first undo the linking of the property and after it is moved, link it again.

  • Billing (for Google Analytics 360 and Google Analytics Premium only), the destination account is billed for the current month.

Moving itself

In Google Analytics, go to the property you want to move to another account. Then go to management and click on Property settings. Next, you will see a "Move Property" button that we use to start the process. If you do not see this button on the screen, you may not have sufficient permissions to do this. You should have full management to the account. If you do not have this, ask the account administrator to perform this action once. On the next screen, you need to specify which account the property should be moved to. You also need to indicate whether you want to keep the current permissions within the property or use the permissions of the destination account. Finally you need to agree to the terms and conditions and the move can begin!
